Remember the days when stabling at some horse shows consisted of making your own paddocks using trees as posts and lunge lines as fencing? When you could fall off at every jump on a cross country course and still be allowed to finish? When half Arabs ruled the dressage ring? When international show jumpers wore hunt caps with not so much as a chin strap? Equestrian sport has changed enormously over the past three decades, mostly for the better (though not entirely, especially when it comes to the wallet).
